My Story

I’ve spent my career in the non-profit sector, motivated by the desire to help improve lives and make a positive impact in the world. Despite doing rewarding work for an amazing organization and mission in which I believe strongly, I found myself in the midst of midlife crisis as I approached my fifth decade of life.

Feeling adrift, stuck, dissatisfied, and unmotivated, I longed for a change but didn’t know what it might be. The feelings were only exacerbated by the COVID 19 pandemic coupled with several jarring wake-up calls, including my wife's breast cancer ordeal and the untimely deaths of several people close to us. A period of soul searching led me to explore professional coaching. In the process of learning to coach and being coached myself, I began to notice a shift. Learning to focus on what was most important to me and take action toward meaningful goals, learning to notice my own limiting beliefs and move beyond my usual stopping points, I experienced a new sense of possibility, along with greater joy, renewal, contentment, and peace.

One of the big changes I made, together with my wife, Amanda, was making the move to Portugal.  As long as we've been together, we've had a dream of living abroad, to explore amazing places, experience different cultures, enjoy delicious food and wine, and meet interesting people. It had always been a “someday” sort of fantasy though with no actual plan for making it happen and all sorts of reasons to keep putting it off. It was through the process of being coached ourselves that we committed to making our dream a reality and saw it through, so we can attest to its value first-hand. It’s not an exaggeration to say we wouldn’t be doing this otherwise! I would love to share what I've learned in coaching with you!
